Metro Bank is having issues with its payment services this morning.

The bank says it has fixed the problem, but customers may still experience delays when trying to send or receive money.

Customers are advised to call the bank if they need to speak to someone.

Reports on social media suggest some customers are seeing duplicate transactions in their accounts, leaving them overdrawn, or even being unable to access their money.

One user said: ‘My partner is a truck driver working circa 14 hours on the road today and has had no access to his money to buy food or drink since 6am.’

Another asked: ‘What is going on? All my transactions duplicated and it’s leaving me with no access to funds.’

A third contacted Metro Bank on X, asking: ‘Why have myself and my partner both been made £280 overdrawn this morning? Another person I know and had a Metro account has this too…what’s going on?’

Metro Bank has also issued a warning for personal and business telephone banking, saying calls are taking longer than usual to get through.

They are receiving a high number of calls at the moment, which is causing delays.

However, the majority of Metro Bank’s services are running as normal, including opening an online account, personal online banking, ATMs, and the app.

A Metro Bank spokesperson told Metro that the problem has now been fixed, despite messages on the bank’s service status page suggesting the fix was still in progress.

They added: ‘We experienced a short delay affecting inbound and outbound payments earlier this morning.
