Greta Thunberg has savagely hit back at Donald Trump after he called the activist ‘crazy’ and told her to ‘see a doctor’.

The US President said the climate campaigner had ‘anger management problems’ after she was deported from Israel.

Thunberg was among 171 members of the Gaza aid flotilla who were deported to Greece and Slovakia after they were intercepted before they could reach the enclave.

Reacting to Trump’s Oval Office remarks on Instagram, Thunberg sarcastically said she appreciates ‘his concerns for my mental health’.

The full response reads: ‘I heard Donald Trump once again has expressed his very flattering opinions on my character, and I appreciate his concerns for my mental health.

‘To Trump: I would kindly receive any recommendations you might have to deal with these so called “anger management problems” since – judging by your impressive track record – you seem to be suffering from them too.’

Thunberg’s tongue-in-cheek remark was received positively by her followers on Instagram.

One commented: ‘You’re clearly hitting a nerve – keep the pressure on!! Thank you for giving us hope for future generations!!’

Another mocked: ‘He’s going to need some cream for that burn’.

The war of words comes after Thunberg spoke for the first time since her release from Israel.

Speaking to reporters in Athens, she said: ‘This [mission] is a last resort. It is a shame. I could talk for a very long time about my mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment, trust me, but that is not the story.

‘What happened here is Israel, whilst escalating genocide and mass destruction with genocidal intent, is attempting to erase an entire population, an entire nation, in front of our very eyes.

‘They once again violated international law by preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza while people are being starved.’

Thunberg was among 437 activists on board the Global Sumud flotilla, which was intercepted by Israeli forces this week before they could deliver aid to Gaza.

After being intercepted, it was claimed she was held in a cell with bedbugs and forced to kiss the Israeli flag before her release.

Other freed detainees have claimed that the climate change campaigner was dragged by her hair and beaten in front of them, accusations which the Israeli embassy has called ‘complete lies’.

Among nine members of the flotilla who arrived home in Switzerland, some alleged sleep deprivation, lack of water and food. Claims also include being beaten, kicked, and locked in a cage, according to a statement from the group representing the flotilla members.

Israel’s foreign ministry issued a statement, accompanied by photos of Thunberg at the airport, saying all participants’ legal rights had been upheld and the only violence involved an activist who bit a female medic at Israel’s Ketziot prison.

An Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson rejected the allegations, while the Israeli Embassy called them ‘complete lies’,
