Prince Harry has spoken out after reuniting with King Charles for the first time in more than a year.

The estranged father and son last met in February 2024 after the monarch revealed he was undergoing cancer treatment.

Harry, who moved to the US in 2020, flew briefly back to London to visit Charles for 30 minutes.

Some 20 months later, Harry pulled up in a car outside Clarence House, the monarch’s London home, at around 5.20pm to have tea with his dad.

He spent about 55 minutes inside before dashing out, later saying at his Invictus event in London of the King: ‘Yes, he’s great, thank you.’

This was only a few hours after the King was seen travelling by car to Clarence House, having flown earlier today to the capital from Scotland.

Royal watchers doubt, however, that the prince will meet his brother and heir to the throne, Prince William, from whom he is also estranged.

Harry, Charles’ younger son, has been distant from the royal family since he and Megan Markle withdrew from their royal duties.

Mok O’Keeffe, a royal historian, told Metro that today’s union could be a first step towards healing the royal rift.

‘All of us have, at one time or another, probably had disagreements with our family and we all know someone who maybe doesn’t get along with their in-laws,’ he said.

‘So, we should probably have more empathy for the two Dukes and the King. It may feel like a grand soap opera, but in reality, we have all witnessed a family breakdown.’

O’Keeffe added that one reason the British public accepted having a new queen, Camilla, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, was seeing how happy the monarch is with the ‘woman he loves’.

‘Whatever perception we may have of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, surely the same principle applies to Father and youngest son,’ he said.

The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK on Monday for a four-day trip supporting some of his charities.

Meghan stayed behind in California to look after their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, four.

Harry was seen laying flowers on the grave of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, on the third anniversary of her death.

He later attended an awards ceremony WellChild, a charity that helps seriously ill children, before visiting a community recording studio in Nottingham to meet social action groups and local charities the next day.

In May, Harry said Charles stopped speaking with him following a lawsuit the prince brought against the Home Office for cutting back the security he receives on visits to the UK.

He said: ‘I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.’
