First picture of Saudi student stabbed to death on ’10 week placement’ in Cambridge


This is the first picture of a Saudi Arabian student stabbed to death after he moved to the UK to study foreign languages in Cambridge.
Mohammed Algasim, 20, from Saudi Arabia, who was on a 10 week placement studying on language course studying English in Cambridge, was killed in an ‘unprovoked attack’, police said.
Police were called to Mill Park in Cambridgeshire at 11.27pm on Friday after reports of violence.

Mr Algasim was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.01am (2 August).

In a statement, the family said: ‘Muhammad Yousef Algasim. A young man brimming with enthusiasm, brimming with chivalry and courage. He was a dutiful son, a loving brother, and the leader of the family in spirit, not in appearance.
‘He was cheerful, chivalrous, pure of heart, quick to give, and passionate about others. Over time, he became the family’s charisma, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy in every gathering.
‘He was his father’s support, his familiar companion, and the assistant to his uncles and maternal uncles. He was the most compassionate person to ever visit a mother’s heart and the closest to his sisters’ embrace.’
The student attended the EF International Language Campus, part of a group which offers English courses.

The school said in a statement to the Telegraph: ‘We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our adult students was fatally injured last night in a public space.
‘We are working closely with the local police, who are investigating the incident and have confirmed they made arrests.’
‘The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. We are providing support to all students and staff affected by this tragic event and have organised counselling sessions.
‘Our thoughts are with the student’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we have offered our full support.’
A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Tuesday however it is believed he was stabbed in an unprovoked attack.
A 21-year-old man, from Cambridge, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He is due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today (4 August).
A 50-year-old man, also from the city, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in custody.
