Plane declares mid-air emergency before landing on burst tyre at East Midlands Airport


Fights at East Midlands Airport were prevented from taking off after a plane performed a miraculous landing on a burst tyre.
The TUI flight declared an emergency mid-air after it took off from Birmingham Airport on Monday.
The plane landed with all the passengers disembarked safely with no injuries reported.
Other planes hoping to land were diverted to nearby Birmingham Airport.
Some passengers complained on social media of being stuck on the tarmac for more than an hour as airport staff try move the plane.

An East Midlands Airport statement said: ‘We have accepted a diverted TUI aircraft from Birmingham Airport after it declared an emergency with a punctured tyre. It has landed safely and all passengers have disembarked.
‘We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible and ask passengers arriving or departing from East Midlands this afternoon for their patience. They should contact their airline for the latest updates.’
In their latest update, East Midlands Airport said: ‘Following an earlier aircraft incident, our runway is now fully operational.
‘We advise checking with your airline for up-to-date information concerning your flight.
‘We won’t be adding any further updates. Thank you for reading.’
