Bomb squad and counter terrorist police called to home outside village pub


A man has been shot by police after bomb squad was deployed to a home in Kent all night forcing the A20 to close.
Emergency services were called to a home next door to the Park Gate Inn pub in Hollingbourne at around 9pm yesterday and have sectioned off the road.
During the incident, a firearm was discharged, resulting in a man sustaining life-changing injuries.
The man was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Counter terrorism officers and members of the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance team are all at the scene along with the National Crime Agency.

The IOPC said: ‘We have begun an independent investigation after a man was shot and seriously injured by Kent Police, who were responding to an incident on Monday 7 July.

‘We were notified by the force after the incident in Hollingbourne, which occurred shortly before 9pm, and declared an independent investigation a short time later.
‘The man is receiving treatment in hospital for his injuries which are thought to be life changing.
‘We have sent investigators to the scene and the police post-incident procedure to begin gathering evidence. Our investigation is in the very early stages.’
A 100-metre police cordon has been established around the home, with forensics teams and armoured police vehicles continuing to secure the area.
Ashford Road between Greenway Court Road and the B2163 Penfold Hill is currently blocked in both directions.
