Two teenagers arrested after manhunt over fatal hit and run in Leeds

A 19-year-old has been killed in a hit-and-run, and two other teenagers have been arrested in Leeds.
Around 10 pm yesterday evening, a red Ford Focus turned onto the ring road in Beeston Park when it struck a man who was walking near Leeds Urban Bike Path.
The suspects fled from the scene. Emergency services attended, but the teenager passed away at the roadside.
West Yorkshire Police have now arrested two males aged 15 and 19 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The Ford Focus involved has been recovered by officers as the investigation into the accident continues.
The Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) are seeking witnesses to the incident and would like to speak to anyone who saw or has dashcam footage.

Officer James Entwistle said: ‘A substantial number of enquiries remain ongoing today into this very serious collision, which has tragically resulted in the death of a young male.
‘We are supporting his family and continue to hold two males in custody following their arrest on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
‘We are actively appealing for information and footage to assist the investigation and would like to speak to anyone who has CCTV, dashcam or phone footage of the collision, or of the car involved, just before it took place.’
A 2023 Freedom of Information request to the Crown Prosecution Service found prosecutions for hit-and-runs fell by 28% in England and Wales since 2020.
