Screams heard after bus smashes into bridge injuring 15

Fifteen people are injured after a double decker bus collided with a bridge, tearing off its roof.

The incident occurred on a Bee Network bus in Eccles, Greater Manchester.

‘It was probably two minutes before I got there,’ one resident told Manchester Evening News.

They said: ‘I could just hear screaming coming from the top of the bus.’

Another resident said: ‘There was ambulances and police cars just flying down the road.

‘You could see the bus straight away. I believe it was coming through from the Trafford side and it looks like it’s come right through.’

They added it was the third time they had seen a vehicle collide with the low bridge.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: ‘We are currently responding to a collision between a bus and a bridge at the junction of Barton Road and Trafford Road in Eccles.

‘Emergency services are currently on scene as part of the ongoing work. Please avoid the area as road closures are currently in place.’

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said that it was supporting the emergency response amid reports several people were injured onboard the no 100 bus, which runs between

‘Shortly after 3.10pm we received reports of a double-decker bus colliding with a bridge on Barton Lane in Eccles’, a spokesperson said.

‘The bus was a 100 service and in operation at the time of the collision. Emergency services are at the scene, with reports of several injured passengers.

‘Our absolute priority right now is supporting the emergency response and the people who were on board.’

Northwest Ambulance Service said: ‘Following reports of an RTC involving a bus in Eccles, the trust has dispatched resources to the scene. We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services.’
