Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman found dead in Manchester

A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead in a house in Manchester.
The woman, who is 51, was found after police were called shortly after 4am on Monday morning.
They were called to the house in Queens Road, Harpurhey, and Greater Manchester Police has since arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
He is still in custody, and while there isn’t a formal cordon at the scene, there is still a police presence at the house.
Detective Inspector Emma Hulston said: ‘The thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the victim’s family at this time.
‘We are committed to getting answers for them and establishing what occurred.
‘We understand this investigation will raise concerns in the local community, but I would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.
‘Officers will be conducting their enquiries at the address so you will see more officers out in the local area.
‘We have a number of additional resources dedicated to this investigation.’
Pat Kearney, a councillor for Harpurhey and Collyhurst, said: ‘Everyone in Collyhurst is shocked to read about this terrible tragedy.
‘GMP have kept local councillors updated. From the information we have been given there is no threat to the local community.
‘We will be visiting the area today as a lot of older residents live there.’
