A major fire has broken out at the docks near Methil Harbour in Fife, with multiple lorries and trailers on fire sending up plumes of black smoke.

People were warned not to go near the area, and to keep their windows closed to avoid breathing in the smoke.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), said: ‘We were alerted at 9.11am on Sunday to reports of a fire affecting multiple heavy goods vehicles and trailers in Methil, Fife.

‘Operations control has seven appliances at the scene. There are no reported casualties.

‘Due to the smoke, the public has have been asked to avoid the area and locals have been asked to stay indoors with their windows shut.

Methil Harbour is north of Edinburgh in southeastern Scotland, sitting on the shore of the Firth of Forth estuary which opens into the North Sea.

The area between Harbour View and South Street where the fire broke out has since reopened.

Police Scotland Fife said the fire was ‘contained’, with no reported injuries, but also warned people to keep their windows closed.

They said in a statement: ‘Emergency services are in attendance following a vehicle fire in the Harbour View area of Methil which was reported around 9.20am on Sunday, 21 December, 2025.

‘The fire is contained and there are no reported injuries.

‘The area between Harbour View and South Street has since reopened however nearby residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed at this time.

‘Members of the public are asked to avoid the area where possible.’
